Can't Download a Bluesky Video? A Troubleshooting Guide

Most of the time, saving a video from Bluesky takes about ten seconds. You copy the link, paste it into BskySaver, click Download, done. But every now and then something goes wrong, and you're left staring at an error message with no clue what happened.

The good news is that almost every failed download comes down to a small handful of causes, and most of them take under a minute to fix. Here are the usual suspects, roughly in the order we see them.

You pasted the wrong kind of link

This is the number one reason people can't download a Bluesky video. BskySaver needs a link to one specific post. A profile link or a feed link won't work, because there's no way for us to know which post you meant. A valid post link looks like this:

https://bsky.app/profile/HANDLE/post/ID

If your link ends right after the handle, with no /post/ part, you've copied a profile link. Here's how to grab the right one:

1. Open the post that has the video, in the Bluesky app or on the website.
2. Tap the three dot icon below the post.
3. Tap Copy link to post.

The post is from a private or limited account

BskySaver can only fetch media from public posts. If the account has restricted who can see its content, or the post only appears when you're signed in, our servers can't reach the video and the download will fail. There's no workaround for this, and honestly, there shouldn't be. If someone limited their audience on purpose, that's their call. The post was deleted

A link only works while the post behind it still exists. If the author deleted the post, or their whole account, the video is gone from Bluesky's servers and no downloader can bring it back. Quick way to check: open the link in a normal browser tab. If Bluesky shows a "post not found" style message instead of the video, that's your answer.

The post doesn't actually contain a video

It sounds obvious, but this one catches people all the time. BskySaver supports videos, GIFs, and images from public posts. A text-only post has nothing to save, so you'll get an error even though the link itself is perfectly valid.

Watch out for quote posts

Quote posts are a sneaky version of this. If someone quoted a post that has a video in it, the video belongs to the original post, not the quote. Copy the link from the quote and you'll hand us a post with only text in it. Tap through to the original post first, then copy that link instead.

The "video failed to process" error is a Bluesky problem

Plenty of people search for "Bluesky video failed to process" and assume their downloader broke. It didn't. That message is Bluesky's own upload error, shown to the person posting the video. It means the clip never finished processing on Bluesky's side, so it was never published in the first place. There's nothing for BskySaver, or any other tool, to fetch.

If you're the one uploading and you keep hitting this error, try posting the clip again, check that the file meets Bluesky's length and size limits, and make sure your app is up to date. Once the video actually plays in the post, downloads will work normally.

Browser things worth trying

If the link is right and the post is public with a real video in it, the problem is probably on the browser side. Work through these:

• Try a different browser. BskySaver runs in any modern browser on your phone, tablet, or computer, so switching from Safari to Chrome takes seconds and rules a lot out.
• Turn off content blockers for the download. Some ad blockers and privacy extensions stop the download button from responding. Pause them for bskysaver.com, or use a private window where extensions are usually off.
• Check your downloads folder. Sometimes the file saved fine and just landed there quietly without a notification.
• Reload and try again. A flaky connection can interrupt things halfway. One more attempt often does it.

Your "video" might be a GIF, and that's fine

Run through the list above and nine times out of ten the fix is the link itself.
